Coral 12 Days of Christmas
Coral 12 Days of Christmas - Tom Paddon Media
Here’s how I made some triple-20 animation for Coral’s 12 Days of Christmas. Looking for a freelance animator and motion designer? Drop me a message today!
11, 12, 365?! How many days does Christmas actually have? For Coral’s 2019 Christmas social media promotion, they wanted to show off some of the best moments in sporting history. How many can you name?
About the Project
To start, the basis of this project from Coral was that each day on the run up to Christmas, they would post a new advent calender video to their Twitter page showcasing a great sporting moment. The secret? The sporting moment or initials of whoever was behind each door formed a word which, if guessed correctly, would win the guesser a grand prize.
From footballing legends like Aguero & Lampard to darts stars that dominate the board like Barneveldt, this promotion was fantastic fun to animate. Take a look at the video below to see each animation one after the other, in all it’s goodness.
Here’s the final door, #12, of the Coral Christmas promotion:

About the Idea
In order to get people to really engage with the promotion, Squawka, the agency we worked with on this project, wanted to make the videos interactive in multiple ways. The first being the way each video is posted - one after the other on the days running up to Christmas. This increases the chance that people will engage with subsequent posts as they’re invested in seeing which sporting moment comes next.
Another way Squawka aimed to maximise engagement was through the competition. This was another reason why people wanted to keep coming back day after day to see the animations. With the thought of a prize in mind (£500 in free bets at Coral) they wanted to continue engaging until they completed the clues hidden within each post.
